Often when bees abscond or swarm from a resting site, we find bees left behind after a swarm. This is a normal part of nature – sad – but normal.

Bees are a society, and when they swarm, they make a decision that is for the benefit of the collective – and as always happens with collective decision making, there are always some people that get left out.

Gernerally no. When they leave they are gone! If for some reason the queen cannot leave, they may try to swarm.

Will bees come back after swarming?

The bees will leave, hang on a tree or in a bush for an hour or so and then dejectedly return to the hive where the queen is. This is not a given, but it can happen.

Why did my bees abscond?

Bees can abscond for various reasons - the most common reason is starvation. 

By swarm we are referring to a cluster of bees hanging in a swarm looking for a new hive location.
