Dr. Garth A. Cambray is a beekeeper, biotechnologist, researcher and entrepreneur with nearly three decades of practical experience working with honey bees, honey production and value-added bee products. He has worked with bees since the mid-1990s and combines practical apiary experience with formal scientific training in microbiology and biotechnology.

What began as university research developed into nearly three decades of hands-on beekeeping experience covering backyard and commercial apiary management, swarm collection, bee removal, honey production and colony management.
His practical insights form the foundation for many of the articles he writes for BeekeeperTips. Garth’s writing combines scientific knowledge with the lessons that only come from actually working bees through different climates, seasons and situations.
Mead Production & Fermentation Innovation
Garth’s PhD research focused on improving the production of mead using fermentation biotechnology. His work helped develop continuous fermentation approaches designed to make honey-based fermentation more efficient and commercially viable.
As a founder of Makana Meadery, Garth helped commercialise African-style mead and explored ways of creating higher-value products from locally produced honey.
